Jim Schreiber’s practice includes the representation of talent, including writers, directors, actors and producers, as well as talent agencies, production companies and sales agents, in the negotiation and documentation of agreements for both live action and animated motion pictures, television, direct to DVD and related productions.
He has extensive experience in the negotiation and documentation of production, distribution and financing agreements relating to motion picture production and motion picture acquisition both within the United States and internationally.
He also specializes in the litigation of intellectual property matters, particularly idea theft, copyright infringement, unfair competition, guild arbitrations and audit and profit participation disputes in the entertainment industry.
Representative Matters
Jim has represented major media companies in defending a series of copyright infringement and idea theft and related claims, spanning seven years, both in California state and federal court, relating to prominent entertainment properties, including,
“Bear In The Big Blue House”, “Blues Clues”, “Good Night Elmo”, “Elmo’s World” and ”Dora The Explorer”.
Jim has represented producers in the negotiation and production, distribution and financing agreements of major motion pictures, including
“Shadowlands” “American Me” “Space Jam”, “Ferngully” and “Stand And Deliver”, among others.
Jim has represented animation production companies in the following direct to DVD animated productions, among others,
“Little Mermaid II”, “101 Dalmatians II”, and “Tarzan II”.
Jim has represented profit participants in complex litigation and audit disputes relating to motion pictures and television series, including,
“Superman I” and “Superman II” motion pictures and the “Fraser” television series, among others.
